Prayer and Poetry

Gleaned from reading Morning and Evening – Devotions by Charles Spurgeon

Gracious Spirit dwell with me;
I myself would gracious be,
And with words that help and heal
would thy life in mine reveal,
and with actions bold and meek
would for Christ my Saviour speak.

Though thou slay me I will trust,
praise thou even from the dust,
prove, and tell it as I prove,
thine unutterable love.

Thou may chasten and correct,
but thou never can neglect;
since the ransom price is paid,
on thy love my hope is stayed.

Proclaim aloud the Saviour’s fame,
who bears the Breaker’s wond’rous name;
sweet name; and it becomes him well,
who breaks down earth, sin, death and hell.
