This is just the start of a thought on contentment….
Do we tend to think of contentment as the ability to be more stoical than the average person when faced with a problem of some sort? Is a contented person just someone with a higher pain/stress/worry threshold than those around him or her?
Is it not more that the contented person has their nerve endings in entirely different places? Perhaps the contented person is not ignoring the pain, grinning and bearing it with a stiff upper lip, but rather not actually feeling it in the same way.
Do the circumstances that would cripple most just fail to hit a nerve in the contented person in the same way?
